What is this barrel?

I recently picked this barrel up in a swap.  It is marked "H&R .30-30 Win.".  The muzzle is .600 dia., 22" long.  It fits on my SB2 frame and is an ejector barrel.  There is no rear sight, but the dovetail for one is there.

I assume it is a 158 barrel, but do not know the differences in the old H&R models.

have you removed the scopemount. The model # may possibly be underneath.

The slim profile and dovetail make it a pre '87 H&R Inc barrel, H&R1871 '87 and later had screw mounted rear sights and a heavier contour, muzzle closer to .650".

Both the picture and the description right down to the sight that wont fit with a scope, match my 58 topper 30-30 to a "T". mine is a 1:9 twist, fairly old. Shoots very well-Brent

woodchukhntr, You have gotten hold of a national treasure. I have three of the older 30-30's with slim profile barrels.
1. is similar to yours and has the same front sight, the Lyman rear sight and the "H&R 30-30 Win w/circle P" is stamped on the side of the barrel.

2.Another is stamped TOPPER MODEL 158
                          -30-30 Win w/circle P-
This particular barrel also has the Lyman rear sight and a dovetail mounted front sight. There is a ramp that has the dovetail in it. Can't really tell how it is attached.

3.This barrel is stamped "H&R 30-30 Win w/circle P with no rear and front sights missing. It is an on going project though it is shootable now.

Numrich has the forends for these thinner barrels and also the forend screws if needed. The screws are a different thread than todays barrels.

My kids and grand youngin's have a blast shooting these with a mildly loaded 130 grain Hornady SSSP bullet.

Just a lighter 30-30 since I sold mine to Mac, I thought about making it a 30-40AI, but I don't know if the underlug is welded or not.

Barrel looks just like my topper 158 30-30. On the left hand side of the barrel right above where 30-30 Win circleP is it is stamped topper model 158

Underlug appears to be soldered on, forend stud is ¼-28, both characteristics of an early barrel, so it will remain a 30-30.

Thanks woodchukhntr, it's a nice looking barrel considering it's age, it comes real close to fitting a couple of my spare frames, so it won't take much work to get it shooting, on one frame it needs to be shimmed, will be using one of the parkerized shims Larry sent me more than likely unless it will fit the other one by just milling the pivot a little.
