Big Gills
« on: May 08, 2009, 10:04:55 AM »
Here in Pa. this is the best time of the year to catch big bluegills. I have been catching some really nice ones. I think bluegills are one of the best tasting fish there is. With a light weight rod and reel they are one of the funnest fish to catch, and the action can be non stop. When the water is cooler this time of year the fish are firmer and taste much better than in mid summer.

Yes, you can't beat the fun with a fly rod and popper.

I stocked my pond with hybrid bluegill once.  Didn't like the way they tasted.  Besides, they had a mouth as large as a bass.    I then stocked some small-mouth bluegill and they took over.  Fun to catch and a delicacy to eat.
