Nickle plated?
« on: March 14, 2010, 03:15:58 PM »
I have a neighbor with a H&R ser# HK (1996?) reciever. It appears to be a nickle coated receiver. It is a silverish color. It was tarnished, we cleaned it up with a wire wheel. He wants it to shine. What do we put on it? Would somthing like brasso work? Thanks

I doubt it's going to shine, you may damage it trying, if it's like other H&R finishes, it's pretty thin, it's intended to be matte.

Yes the receiver looks like that but dull. It has a Topper Deluxe 12ga 3" rifled and ported. The barrel has a .99 spray can finsh. It was flaking off so we stipped put on a self etching primer. With an industrial flat black.

I'd recommend leaving it as is, then it will match a stainless barrel if you ever have a chance to buy one.  ;) I've got three of them, 2 SB2s and an SB1 TDC 20ga, the TDC frame is painted flat black Rustoleum as my turkey gun!  ;D
