Atkinson & Marquart .375 H&H rifle Info needed
« on: March 19, 2010, 04:13:24 PM »
I recently purchased a custom Atkinson & Marquart .375 H&H rifle based on a Remington 721 action. Does anyone out there know something about these guns and where I could get some information to determine its value?

Thanks

I don't think it be of great value other than what you paid for it.  You have alot of history with that rifle  Bill Atkinson sold his barrel making company to Tom Houghton (H&S) after the split from A&M he worked for Ruger and I read articles about him being Bill Ruger right hand man.  Paul Marquart when on to fame with his Marquart neck turner beside being a gunsmith.

Built right here in Prescott, Arizona when Arizona was a hot bed for custom builders. You have what was at the time a close rival to Griffin and Howe, et.al. were building in their hayday in the twenties and thirties. A&M heyday were the 50's 60's and early 70's. I have had the pleasure of owning an A&M built on an early Savage 110 action. Does your rifle have the octagon recoil sleeve around the barrel? This was one of their trademark deals on Magnums. I also have had the pleasure of owning a 257 roberts built by Bill Sukalle of Phoenix. His gimmick was to make barrels from truck axles and the Buehler type safety was his invention. Still wish I had the Roberts. What you have is an exceptional example of a rifle custom built from that era. My guess is to extract max value, you would need to find a buyer specializing in A&M rifles. The refinements would be lost on your common Joe Blow rifle guy.
