Ha, Beginners Misfortune
« on: March 13, 2010, 07:36:17 AM »
My bow broke! More specifically, the cam bearing. AARRR. Returned it to Cabelas for full refund. It was a Parker Trailblazer XP. I really liked it and my friends were impressed with it. I should have had it fixed but after something breaks it makes me gun-shy. Oh well, now that I'm sure archery is something I'll be doing a lot of I'm gonna get something a little better. I really like the Martin Firecat Tr2. Come on PAYCHECK!

Martins are great bows and they back them well if you have any problems. Glad you enjoy the sport, it's addicting fast.

There are alot of great bows out there these days. I would make sure you go with a manufacturer that will back their product. I know a guy at a bow shop that doesn't even need a bow press for martin bows, tricks of the trade I guess. Me personally, I stay away from magazine order bows. The reason for this is, bows are like putty, you have to mold them to your body. You can order ten of the exact same bows for ten people and the will all shoot differently. This being said even goes for the ten people having the same draw length. I guess what I am saying is, I like to go to the pro shop and get it some what setup before it is on its way to the house. Get a good one setup for you and you will have years of fun on your hands, GOOD LUCK, and happy hunting.

Yeah I understand about finding the bow that fits you. The only problem is there aren't a lot of bow shops around my area. The closest is 15 miles away and the rest are 45+ miles away. Not to mention most of the bows at my "local" shop wont fit since I have a 26" draw length. Only 3 out of 20 fit me. Ones a Mathews DXT and the other two were youth bows. Hmph

I shoot a DXT and love it, but they are not very forgiving, too tight of tolerances and to short Axle to Axle. If you get a DXT you will cuss it, love it , and have a true love hate relationship.

Nice to know. I went ahead and Got a Firecat. First (and only) dual cam bow and I'm hoping tuning it wont be a hassle.

I am no hung up so much on the brand as long as it is a
1. Mathews
2. Martin
3. Bear
4. or Reputable bow

But I do insist on a single cam...No tuning troubles as compared to a dual cam.

Mathews or Hoyt is probably the best, and when we were shoothing world class tournaments you wouldnt find me or my wife shoothin anything but Mathews. For bow hunting my choice is Martin Chetah. Great bow and 1/2 the price.
