Encore 7M-08 repeat question
« on: November 07, 2003, 01:40:57 PM »
As you can tell from the subject line I am looking for good loads for my Encore.  PLEASE NOTE . . . this would include OAL of the 7M-08 cartridge.  I have posted on the Thompson rifle site, but thought I would spread it a little here also.  I am partial to Nosler bullets (especially Partitions) as well as IMR 4350 and Reloader 15. But I am a reloader . . . and I can change . . . If I have too.

LW
Check the rifle section I gave some suggestions there.

BTW this works in my 15" Encore

WW case
WW LRP
140 g Nosler BT
45.7 grains of VV N550
2600 fps
.70 3 shot group @ 100 yards if I do my part.
This is close to a max load especialy if your bore is tight or rough. Always start low and work up!
I had to lap mine and break it in with frequent cleanings before it started shooting decent.

Thanks guys.  I have just found one load that seems to shoot .5   I shot them in my last outing and that is what I got for 3 shots.   It is the Speer spitzer 130 gn with 37.5 gns of IMR 4350.  I think . . . if I remember right the OAL is 2.734.  I just loaded up somemore to test maybe thursday.  I loaded all my cartridges the same, but just varied their length.  I would prefer though to get the Nosler Partitions and Ballistic tips shooting.

Hey Long;
Beings you gave the oal for a Speer 130 and I just happened to have some I measured your oal and compared it with my compareter. Then measured a 140 bt and a 150 Par.
For the ojive to be in the same place as the speer bullet a 140 BT would have a oal of 2.852 and a 150 Par would be at 2.823. I picked the ones with the best tips.
Hopefully this will get you closer with the Noslers

Duffy, you are the man!  I made up several different cartridges. Varied bullets, powder and powder amount.  But I kept to the OAL measurements you gave me.  2 of the cartridges (3-shot groups) were 1" and the other was just over 1".  My next purchase will be a bullet comparator.  It seems to be one of those things that raises you up a level in your load development.  Thanks again.

Hey guys, the OAL will be different in different chambers. To find the optimum bullet depth, use a Stony Point tool or try one of these:

Long,
Glad to save ya some time and to be of assistance.  This is the first time I've measured OAL length from this far away! :)

Iowegan,
I was using Longwinters OAL measurements for comparison.
