This was my Dads mauser
« on: March 09, 2010, 02:30:59 PM »
This old Mauser in 7X57 was my Dads deer hunter for many years! He passed the old rifle on to me for now, the old rifle needs a little work, but overall is still a pretty good shooter. Bought a box of these russian manufacture cartridges 139gr. that shoot good from the old mauser. scout4<><

Looks like a very nice rifle thanks for sharing pics.

Just beautiful!  Looks like a small ring with the issue barrel.   :-\

I've got a Swede action that I'm gonna have barreled in 7x57.

Your rifle looks very nice.  The 7X57 mauser is a good hunting round, with a low recoil.  I have a 77 Ruger tang safety 270 Win, that I bought used a couple of years ago, which I will have rebarreled to 7X57 soon.  I'm partial to the 7X57 and the 257 Roberts, which is just a 7mm mauser necked down to 25 cal.

Nice 7mm mauser.  I've collected quite a few small ring and large ring 7mm mausers.  They seem to pop up at times.

Most people don't know the 7mm mauser is one of the flatest shooting rounds there is.  If you use a ballastic caculator and punch in a 125yd zero the 7mm bullets path varies about 1/2" to 5/8" from the muzzle out to 125yds.  Thats pretty impressive.

I've grown really fond of the 7mm mauser(7x57) and the 6.5mm swede mauser(6,5x55) both these midbore mausers are awesome to shoot with getting your shoulder ripped off.  I can shoot these all day at the range. Plus they both are accurate and have the knockdown power to drop moose and reindeer on the spot too.  I found the 29" barreled chilean mausers and the spanish / chilean carbines.  I never thought i would ever see these in 7mm since some of the spanish carbines were converted to 308 and that makes the 7mm more rare to find.

I found the 7mm sellier & bellot 173gr ammo to be accurate in the 29" barrel if no one wants to reload.  I did reload some of the winchester 150gr pointed soft points but i haven't tried them yet.

We have to remember they shot elephants with the 7mm mauser rounds too.  I did build a 7mm chilean with a 29" barrel for a varmit gun.  I figured it would be great for those long shots on yotes.
