Gator gas checks source
« on: March 01, 2010, 06:34:56 PM »
If you are wondering where to get Gator gas checks and save a lot of money, here are your contacts and a bit of helpful information about the manufacturer.
Larry Blackmon is the owner, but is a full time eye doc too, so isn't easily available till after 5 evenings, LA time.  You can get him by phone then at 1 318 387 7257
  Or, email him at leblackmon@colla.com

Gator checks for calibers which Hornady makes (RCBS, Lyman sells also) are made to the same specs, however Larry makes several that Hornady doesn't care to mess with.  Like 3 different 50 cal, 3 different 40-41 cal, and a special 45 rifle which is a bit larger than Hornady, and a real asset if you are shooting an oversized 45 rifle.  At this writing, the most expensive checks he sells are 50 cal at $40 per thousand. 475 cal are $28 and prices go down from there.  Looking over his list, it appears that he has checks for every caliber.
Gator checks are of the highest quality, and when you do business with Larry, you are not only saving a lot of money but helping a small businessman, which strengthens the nation, by improving availability of critical components for reloaders.

I first tangled with Larry about 26 years ago, when I had him make me a jacketed bullet swaging die which I used to bump cast bullets to precision with.  It's a concept that really works, especially if hollow points are wanted, as one only has to lubricate his cast first, then swage them to shape with ultra precision, including the HP.  The lube groove doesn't change shape if it's full of lube, but any crimp groove will close up, and whatever shape bullet you push in will come out exactly like the inside of the die.

Larry ships to individual customers free with orders of 5000 or more, and gives a discount for large orders. For orders of 1 to 4 thousand, there will be a shipping charge.

In case you missed my message, I highly recommend the man, his business, and his products.

I second Veral's post.     I haven't had to anneal a check after switching to Gators, they just fit.
