« on: May 09, 2010, 10:42:19 AM »
Just got a Handi in 223 and need to practice and zero and then choose ammo for coyotes from 100 out to 200 yards max
Any advice to a new 223 shooter.
thanks

Most ammo will do the job.  The problem is matching the ammo with the barrel twist.  A 1 in 12 twist likes 45 grain up to 55 and sometimes 60 grain bullets.  The lower twist rates like heavier bullets.   150 yards is the max distance I can squeeze out accurately.  Beyond that, I'm just guessing as to where that bullet is going.  It ain't the gun, it's the old timer behing the trigger. :D

A couple years ago, when I bought my .223 Handi, I asked the same question. Tim told me the Winchester white box 45 grJHP @ 3600 fps is the "gold standard". After trying various since then..I cannot quibble with Tim. He knows whereof he speaks. They originally came in a 40 round "value pack' and were quite reasonably priced.  product # USA2232
