I looked at one at BP today, beautiful wood do they all have that marbled of wood it was great? Ramrod was crap though.

Tag on gun said walnut/blue. If it was real wood it had a lot of lacquer on it.

A friend has the Lyman and it is a really good gun.  I scoped and sighted in that gun for him:  It makes consistent 100 meter three shot groups that measure 1-1.25."  The powder charge he uses is 120 grains of Pyrodex RS and the 300 grain Hornady XTP.

The gun is very nice but the wood is just a printed on and when you chip it well do I need to say more. I was hot for one till I found that the stocks had that plastic type finish and that turned me off real quick. They do look good and shoot great from what I hear.

Mine is four years (& hunting seasons) old and has something over a thousand rounds out of it on the rifle range and hasn't chipped yet.

It's pretty tough.  I don't baby my guns.  I don't abuse them, but they're tools after all and do take a few knocks now and then - especially with climbing stands and such.  The finish on my Mustang has held up better than I ever expected. 

Oh, forgot to add - the stock is real wood under the finish.  I've had the recoil pad off and the wood appears to be a hard straight grain white birch.
