wanting a 357 mag barrel, what has everyone heard?
« on: March 19, 2010, 08:48:34 PM »
Ok so, I just found out that I'm coming into a bit o' money this tax season and was wondering what the consensus was on the barrel program.  I really really really want a 357 mag barrel for my 223 thumbhole frame but I heard they were eliminating their inventory until after tax season.  My question is whether everyone is hearing the same story on mid april for the return of stock.  I look forward to the day.

Thanks,
Matt

That is what all the reports have been so far. But there was some some of the new rifles put out there. Might be a better bet than waiting on the factory. You might give them a call and see when they expect new barrels.

Buds Gun shop still has the new rifles. $227. Buy one and sell off the parts you dont want, should be about the same as a barrel cost ;)

At that price just buy a complete gun and set it up like you want. Ready to go play with anytime that way.

Our Wallmart only sells the 44 mag. with the SB1 ($219)  not 357  -- but the mom and pop shop ordered it in in a week $221 ...I was going to send my resever in,, but paying a little more for the whole gun .... $235 with taxes and all

The new resever is stamped --" 44 rem mag or 357mag -- shotgun only" on the side

From what I read here the old SB1 didn't have that stamped on

The new .357 trapper I got is stamped that way. Probably something they started doing when they switched the .357 and .44 to SB1 frames.
On a side note, I like the finish on the frame. Looks like parkerizing at first, but I am sure it is one of those bake-on finishes. A nice flat black textured surface. I wish they had put the same finish on the barrel.
My .45-70 BC is the only "shiny" gun I own...just can't bring myself to change it.

And I'm sure you had all kinds of problems selling your 357 barrel since no one thinks they are special ;)
Also, if I had a 44 mag revolver, I would be looking for one of those instead.

Alot of people are looking for them. The 357's are good shooters just not worth all the hoopla. Just my opinion but I like the 44 better.

one thing thats nice about the .357, .38's are cheap and plentyful and are actually kinda fun to shoot on a rifle platform.  yesterday i walked some 130 winchesters (flat nose fmj) to about 150 yards, looking at the holes in the paper, they didn't appear to be tumbling.  did i mention that they held a 3.5 inch group.
