Just got my new Do-It Sling Shot Pellet mould and will be casting some buckshot soon.

Now I just wanted to get opinions for a reality check. The published buckshot load data shows the number of certain size pellets in a particular recipe.

What I am wondering is, can you just substitute the weight of the amount of buckshot pellets for the same weight of smaller size birdshot. So 1 ounce of buckshot or 1 ounce of birdshot in the same case, wad, powder and primer combination? Again, this is throwing the shot charge by weight rather than volume.

Any ideas or thoughts? I will be double checking with the powder manufactures to see what they think also.

That's pretty much what I've done for years. Most data is for #4 and 00, I load other sizes using the weight as a rough guide, haven't damaged anything yet. Might have to adjust with in-cup filler wad(s) to get a crimp.

Weight for weight swaps work fine with nekkid buckshot. I'd be a little more cautious with buffered loads, however.

One fly in the ointment is the stackup of components needs to be right for a good crimp. You might not get a good stackup if you substituted say #9 shot for the same weight in 00 buck.
