a couple dumb questions...
« on: April 03, 2010, 04:33:32 AM »
I read the FAQ's....some good info. I got my 336 used so went to the Marlin site and downloaded an owners manual. It's for 336's with the reciever safety and mine doesn't have it. First question is is there anything different than the manual info to disassemble a pre-safety gun or is it the same? Next a friend has a 336 that has extraction problems. Sounds to me like it may be broken and need replacing. Is replacing the extractor a DIY(drop-in) fit or is it a gunsmith job? Looks like i could get one from Brownell's. Last question pertains to scoping my gun. I usually use weaver style bases and rings on my rifles and notice that weaver, leupold etc sell bases...which one should i get(most versatile, i guess)?.....Mike

Samo-samo.

It's not a hard job, but it's also not one for an inexperienced amateur (aka:drop-in).

YMMV. I use receiver peep sights on my leverguns, but for other scoped rifles, I like the light weight of Weaver rings/bases (I use the Weaver base with the sighting trench for iron sight use) - but have Leupold/etc on some of my other rifles.
Other folks often use the Weaver base with some other Weaver-type attaching bases, like Warne, etc.
