Scope mounting on a Rem 700 CDL in .35 Whelen
« on: March 21, 2010, 04:45:46 AM »
I picked up a Remington 700 CDL in .35 whelen last year and I am still to take it out of the box.  It is something that I was not really looking for but it found me.  A guy had won it in a gun raffle and had "no use" for a bolt action "hunting" rifle as he said.  Soooooo, I gave him $500 for it and it has been in my safe since.

Now that I have the story outlined as a poor excuse as to why I have not scoped it yet I would like some advice.  I have never had a .35 Whelen and I do not own any other Rem 700s so I would like some suggestions as to what mounts I should use and what rings would be appropriate.  Also I have not decided on a scope yet either so if you have a suggestion then go for it.  THanks.

P.S. The metal on this rifle has a matte black finish.

I put Talley lightweight base/rings on Mine. About $50. I had a Leupold compact, so I scoped with that.

Weaver bases, Weaver Tip-off Low Rings, and a Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 will serve you very well.  They have me.

I used Burris Dual Dovetail base/rings with the Signature rings and mounted a Leupold VX-III 2.5-8 on mine.

Yes, I agree with Greybeard.  It is still holding up fine since I purchased it from him.  Different scope now  but the same bases/rings.  I think its has a Bushnell 3200 3x9-40.

I use Leupold standard bases and Leupold rings.  Very easy to adjust and perform perfect in every rifle I have used them on.

By the way, the 35 Whelen is an excellent cartridge.

Mine is topped with Leupold rings & bases, and fitted with a Leupold M8- 6 power.

I'm using lupy 2x7s on my 35whaly, but a 2.5x8 or 3x9 would also be just fine.  Rings and bases....whatever.
