Shot a .243 SL Handi and a .270 BLR lever at the range today

Surprised. The recoil does seem all that different. Now the SL with a 4x weighs a bit less than the BLR with a 3x9, but still...... The BLR was a tackdriver with cheapo Wal Mart Federal 150's. I stopped after 1 box because I did not think that I could do better. Still working on the SL. Seems to shoot different every time. Might rescope it.

what 4x scope did you have on the 243?

Ancient Japanese  Bushnell. Basically a throwaway scope. But light and small and held up to 45-70. Vs a $$$ Nikon Buckmaster on the BLR which I used at about 5x. But at the range, quality should not matter.

just wondering. I put a fixed Swift Reliant 4x on the 30-06 barrel I got from you.
Have it set to shoot a 125 gr bullet +/-1.5" out to 250 yards, if you believe ballistic software.
Less to think about. Good gun to let a new hunter use.
