Lincoln's Paternity
« on: December 07, 2003, 05:06:39 AM »
Some weeks ago, I posted a piece on Abraham Lincoln's genesis down in the genealogy section.  It has recieved little attention and no comments.  There is a new book out on the subject, written by Professor Richard Eller and Educator Jerry Goodnight.  It can be ordered from tarheelpress.com  and is entitled Tarheel Lincoln.

These two authors are pressing for DNA tests to prove Lincoln's paternity.

If any of you are interested in the real parentage of "Honest" Abe, you ought to enter "Abraham Enloe" into your search engine.  Be sure to check out the article in Genealogy Today.

If you want to find out what Lincoln was really like, a great book to read is "The Real Lincoln by Thomas J. DiLorenzo". He wasn't so "honest" according to many of the documented stories of his rise to power and struggle to keep it.
If you can earn it, why did He have to die?

Lincoln's rise to the presidency has been well documented.  The best documentation was (is) the book written by his law partner, William Herndon.  Mr. Lincoln was known to tell a fib or two, but what politician doesn't.  He even lied about his birth date, giving it as Feb 12, 1809 at some instances and Feb. 9, at other instances.  He even "phonied up" the "family Bible" to show that his mother was married to Thomas Lincoln at the time of his birth.  His true date of birth was probably Feb. 12, 1804.  Nancy married Tom in 1806.

Throughout history (since Lincoln's presidency) there have been "Lincoln worshippers".  One of the best known was John E. Burton, from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.  Mr. Burton gave a most glowing tribute to Lincoln in the form of a speech which should be required reading for every American, not so much for the content but for the rhetoric.

In spite of his short-comings, Lincoln was probably our greatest president in that he did preserve the Union.  Had he failed in this singleminded endeavor, there would be a half dozen third world nations instead of 50 united states.

Bible prophecy foretells that the USA would become a great single nation.  I believe that Abraham Lincoln was raised up to insure this prophecy.  No other man alive at that time could have done this.

Where do you get the prophecy of the US in the Bible? I've never seen anything about the US in the Bible. I don't think that God was pleased with the Union winning. Look at all of the rights they take away from the States. Freedom of speech (campaign finance laws), freedom of religion (took prayer out of schools, took the 10 Commandments out of a STATE courthouse), adopting a religion (evolution taught in the schools), prohibiting the right to assemble peaceably (abortion clinics), and making States give abortions. With the Patriot Act, they can arrest you and hold you without a trial or lawyer. They don't have to have a warrant to search your house, a group of politicians decides who is a terrorist and who deserves rights and who don't. Man, we are in deep doo doo.

Lincoln was pro slavery. There are many well documented speeches and papers that prove he was. He is responsible for the death of federalism-the decentralized system of government that was established by the founding fathers. This was probably the biggest cost of war. You credit him for saving the Union, but he actually destroyed the idea of the Union as a voluntary association of states by forcing the Southern states to remain in the Union at gunpoint. He only saved the Union in a geographical sense. The States united to kick Great Brittan out of this country. When it was done, they could be independent once more. When some wanted to get out, Lincoln decided to destroy the most significant check on the powers of the central government- the right of secession. He abolished States' rights.
Some Lincoln scholars have even said Lincoln was a dictator. He launched a military invasion without the consent of Congress, suspended habeas corpus, imprisoned thousands of Northern citizens without trial for merely opposing his policies, censored all telegraph communications and imprisoned many of opposing newspaper publishers, nationalized the railroads, used Federal troops to interfere with elections, confiscated firearms, and deported an opposition member of Congress, Clement L. Vallandigham, after he opposed Lincoln's income tax proposal during a Democratic Party rally in Ohio.

There have been many books and articles written concerning modern nations in end-time prophecy.  The U.S., The British Commonwealth. Australia, Egypt, Russia, China, Germany, Syria, Lebanon along with many others are mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments.  One need only to learn how to understand prophecy.  There are a number of sites on the web containing this information.  Just use them with caution as some contain inaccuracies.

There are many "Lincoln haters" in addition to the "Lincoln lovers".  I can understand that; but please don't blame Lincoln for all of America's ills born of that era.  He did not singlehandedly perpetrate all of the above "evils" ..........you can blame congress for most.

Lincoln was under much pressure from the north-eastern liberals to do some of the things he did.....politics as usual.......the slavery question being one of them.

Had the union not survived intact, this great land of ours would be sub-divided into British, French, Spanish, Mexican, Indian, Russian, and Japanese sectors.

As far as God being unhappy with the outcome of the War Between the States, I think God was in charge and in full control.  To say that he was not is blasphemy.  I, however do feel that he is a bit unhappy with the way we (man) have handled things since.  God gave man the options in Eden.  Man chose wrongly.  Man has been making bad choices ever since.  Every once in a while He has to intervene.

I know God is in control. He lets some things happen to punish people for their mistakes. You or I don't know how this nation would have turned out if the South would have won the war. God lets things happen to make the world come out to the end that is described in Revelation. Who can understand the ways of God? His ways are beyond our imagination. I wish I didn't live in the time that all the things are coming to pass. But on the other hand, it is kind of exciting. I know where I am going when I die so it won't be bad for me. I just worry for all of those who are lost. God bless you.

One of Lincoln's most ardent supporters was Theodore Roosevelt.  He spent his entire political career trying to remake the Republican party back into the "party of Lincoln".  He thought the God had chosen Lincoln to lead the nation during those times during the War Between the States.
Thanks for the stump
