litman252: some of the folks feel the CorBon 180s don't or aren't as hot as a 180 should or could be, and the 200 grainers seem to be a bit on the mild side when compared to some of the old Lyman Manual loads for the 357s with that bullet.
Actually, some of the older Winchester reloading data for the 357 lists a couple of loads for the 200 grain cast bullet. One is a WW231 load, 5.5 grains pushing the 200 grainer to 1060'/sec, which is the same as a IMR 4227 load of 7.5 grains. That particular load (velocity) is very accurate in the 357, at least it was accurate enough for me to shoot silhouette and knock over the ram at 200 yds. However, for top end loads I have used, and prefer, the 12.4 grain charge of WW296 for a stated velocity of 1335'/sec. Cor-Bon doesn't get that and will normally 'poo-poo' any loading other than their own.
BTW, the 5.5 grain load of WW231 is rated at 42.5K pressure, while the WW296 load only rates 35K pressure, and is pretty easy to shoot. It is also accurate and hits like a ton of lead. HTH. Mikey.
ps.1 - 11 grains of 2400 will get you 1018'/sec, if you don't happen to have any Winchester powders around.
