Most bonafide experts don't allow such easy access, thank you.

I am getting a Ruger No,1-A in 303 British.  I have no specs but it will be .311 groove probably SAMMI spec chamber.  All Ruger No.1's in .308 caliber are 1-10 twist so I'm willing to guess that the 303 will be the same.  I wish to shoot extremely accurate cheap ammo.  The plan is too buy a single bullet mold from you designed for accuracy and plinking, no hunting.

Can I accomplish this with as-cast bullets from a mold built from my rifle's chamber plug?  Plain base bullet in WW and a litle touch of tin, heat treated if required.  150-165 grain bullet with small but consistent powder charges or should a guy go up to the 180 to 200 grain range?  Finger spread Soft Blue wiped by the seating action.

Am I dreaming?  What would be the upper end of performance expected?

You are dreaming, but it's a good one that won't turn into a nightmare!

I recommend a 160 SP, and would cut two lube grooves.  You won't need to size, but can finger the lube on, using only one groove if you don't get leading, or both grooves if you want to push the speed up a bit.  Send a swaged throat slug and I'll make you a bullet that will fulfill your dreams.  A bevel base will be most accurate and nicest to work with when you don't size.

If other readers have the same interest but would like to use the bullet for small game, I recommend a 140 gr FN, set up and used as above.  Shot at about 1400 fps it will knock small game down instantly, yet take on far larger critters if desired, and do it with real athority.  Consider what a 22 LR is capable of, and add 3.5 times the weight with 30% more energy per grain of bullet weight.  ---   I'm surprised that more people don't understand to potential of such loads, with wide meplat bullets.  Of coarse, similar results can be had in most calibers by adjusting speed and bullet weight a bit, and the flatnoses are just as accurate as a SP out to moderate ranges.

Thanks, as soon as I get the rifle I'll send you a fired cartridge and throat slug.
