500 S&W in a an Encore anyone?
« on: November 13, 2003, 07:05:18 AM »
Curious to know if anyone has had a 500 S&W barrel made and what they thought of the rounds performance.  I'm not even sure if the round can be chambered in the Encore.

Whenever in doubt about what can be chambered in the T/C handguns always go to the SSK website.

If you go there you will see JD has already killed game with one in an Encore last year and has already wildcatted it.

Remember SSK.

A buddy and myself went on a hog hunt last April.  He used an  Encore chambered for the 500S&W.  Barrel was marked Experimental Barrel 1.  There were 2 hogs taken with this "beast" during this hunt, it performed great.  Both were one shot kills and I have both on video.  The bullet was a 300 grain Speer.  It was funny because both the enterance and exit holes were big.  We had to look at the video to see which side was which. Recoil wasn't bad at all with the SSK arrestor brake.
The only thing you should feel when shooting insurgents is recoil.

I also have one for my encore and with the brake it makes it a real good barrel with no more kick than a light 454 load. only shot at 25 yards so far still saving up for a scope .its the cost of ammo that will hurt you not the recoil..
I have yet been able to shoot a 3 shot sub 1" group at 100 yards ...........on any deer!!!!!!

There was a group order on the TC List a month or so ago. I have one ordered. I also have brass coming. Already have a mold for 420 grain bullets. Ought to be interesting.

500 S&W Group Purchase

:D
Slim,

I also purchased one of the 500 barrels, can't wait till it gets here. I picked up some Jamison brass and Speer bullets for it. I am also getting some of the brass from the group purchase. Let me know how the 420's work. I think I will try some of the heavier weight bullets also.

I'm located in Montgomery, AL

Another one here in on the group buy for the .500.  Getting a 20 inch barrel though.  This should be very interesting as a rifle round.   Brass is comming soon so time to get the dies.
