One option folks may not be aware of as far as expressing your concern over these policies is your church. The Department of Defense recognizes several hundred churches and denominations as endorsing agencies for Chaplains, so there is an avenue of influence through those channels to voice your concern. Those several hundred groups actually represent most of America (i.e. Lutheran, Catholic, Southern Baptist, Methodist, etc.). If your church feels strongly about this issue, run it up to the national office and have them address it at that level. It will go to the Chief of Chaplains office in the Army, Air Force, and Navy who will in turn advise their respective Commanders, who comprise the JCS. I believe the JCS is against any change to current policy and is already balking at the SECDEFs ideas. They may appreciate hearing from a different community.

I remain opposed to mainstreaming anything in the military that is not mainstreamed in society. We should not be changing culture, we should be a reflection of our national culture. And despite the media's best effort, homosexuality has not mainstreamed and remains taboo for most of America.

Our military ends up with enough misfits by accident, or a need for warm bodies.  What it sure doesn't need to become on purpose is a social experiment, or sanctuary for deviates of any type.  Maybe some folks can't help what they are, or what their predilection is, but those who can't keep it in their pants--so to speak--will eventually cause disruption and distraction.   

I want the most fit, brightest and best to defend this country; we should settle for nothing less.  I don't even agree with the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, but if that's the best we can do in what passes for political realty, then why make it worse?

Sparta, especially after the homoerotic and highly fictitious movie 300 came out, is often pointed at as, "see, gays in the military aren't just okay, it's best!" What we know as historical fact though lets us know that it was an extension of their community culture, and was really a very minor aspect of that culture. Effeminate behavior, rampant promiscuity were not a part of their culture. Yet that is exactly what every male that has outed himself to me in uniform has essentially declared is his preferred lifestyle, and that he feels the military is cramping. I have no doubt that in every unit I've served with there have been gays for whom it was a non issue, just as my heterosexuality is a non issue. The policy as it stands serves us well; very few commands ever ask even in the face of glaring evidence, and leave it entirely to the individual to come forward, make a statement and essentially request separation.

As much as I detest the behavior, that is as it should be! the left will never rest until "IT" is mainstream. It is behavior as far as I'm concerned, bad behavior.

I've read letters to the editor in the Ft Knox paper, the turrett, that complained of those deviates holding hands, dancing together, and swapping spit at clubs on post where entire families used to be able to go. Folks got sick of their children asking why that guy was kissing and rubbing all over another guy, or why are those 2 girls kissing??  Decent folks are now afraid to take their kids along. Either put em out of the military, or make em get back in the danged closet where they belong. POWDERMAN.

Between the time a young Marine was brought into my hooch in Iraq to the time I informed him that his roommates had seen the gay porn on his laptop, including pictures of said Marine kissing another male servicemember, he went from Chesty Puller to Rue Paul. No kidding, lisp, effeminate gestures, the whole affectation. We sent him home faster than they sent me home for my Dad's funeral, for fear of said blanket party. Except in Iraq, the feared alternatives were lethal. Sadly, I have recently learned from my new command that there are young servicemen who have older more senior servicemen as their sugardaddy. Frankly, it has crossed my mind that the SECDEF and CNO may be too close to the issue; I will try to appear surprised by what comes to light when the DADT policy is eventually repealed.

I have seen the movie 300 and it is typical Hollywood garbage. My comment was in no way influenced by that film. The other part of your post re the historical facts etc. I concur, it was a very different situation then the present US military.
