Winchester 94 question
« on: March 18, 2010, 06:12:00 AM »
I got a Model 94AE XTR .30-30 when I bought a Chevy Blazer back in 1985 (with a Chevy medallion in the stock).  Since then I hadn't shot a full box of ammunition through it.  My father in law gave me a pre-64 .30-30 a couple of years ago.  Since I didn't need two .30-30s (I evidently didn't even need one, lol), I decided to rebarrel the AE as a .38-55.  Put on an octagon barrel and longer magazine tube and changed out the carbine forearm for a rifle forearm.  I'd like to put a pistol grip stock on it (just looks better than a straight grip to me).  I believe that all I need to do is change out the straight lever for a curved lever.  Is that correct?  If so, is it just a swap out, or will more have to be done?  Thanks

If all you do is switch out the straight buttstock & lever for PG types, the side profile will look "okay", but there will be a deep groove/gap under the lever's loop, between it's top strap and the rifle's lower (still straight) tang.

BT/DT/NTS

Ergo, for a complete, professional-looking job, the bottom tang should also be switched to a curved/PG type.
