speer mag tips in a tubular magizine
« on: April 24, 2010, 03:11:09 PM »
I just wondered what peoples thoughts were on this. In my loading supplys I have a abundance of speer 150 grain mag tips which it pretty much looks like a spitser but no lead on the front just flat on the tip though it is not as large of a flat tip as the normal 30-30 bullets. I was just wondering if anyone has tryed loading them for a tube fed gun? of if folks know of the bullet that I'm talking about think it would be ok to be fed in a tube fed gun IE a win. 94.

I got those bullets myself. They look a lot like Rems CorLokts. I wouldn't worry about setting them off in a tubular mag, however you aren't likely to get much expansion from 30-30 velocities

I know they probly won't exspand well at 30-30 velocitys it's mostly to have something to shoot and like I said I have alot of them. 30-30 is the only caliber I have to shoot them in and didn't want to see them just collect dust on the shelf. Nothing against 30-30 but I have other rifles that I would rather use for my  hunting.

As far as shooting them in a tubular mag, your on your own. But, Speer mag tips are, by design, are made to expand at lower velocities and yet, still hold together at upper velocity limits. This is the reason I loaded 180 gr mag tips in my wife's 300 savage, to take her 1st Wisc. blackie, no complaint on bullet performance. To be sure you could call them and ask or try them in a test medium, just my 2 penny's. CRASH87
