Suggestions on mounting scope on a .357 Winchester Trapper?
« on: November 15, 2003, 05:38:36 AM »
I purchased a very nice Trapper model in .357 last year.  As with my other rifles, I use open sights, but now I'm interested in putting a scope on that short-barreled rascal.  Does anyone have a good suggestion of how to go about mounting a scope on this piece?  I am truly a 'scope novice'.

hey....thanks for the reply, and the info.  i'll take a look at midway.  i bought this piece in excellent used condition.  after getting used to it, i get 2-3 inch, with factory sights at about 65 yards.  i'm thinking of using it for hunting at 100 to 150 yards, and want a better result.

Many years ago when Winchesters were top eject I scoped one by using a forward mount and a Leupold M8 2X pistol scope (non critical eye reiief). At the time it was the only option to a side mount. I liked it and the balance it gave to the gun. I should thing that this is still a viable option today.
Last year I put a scope on my sons trapper 30-30. It took a conventional mount and a Bushnell 1.5-5 compact. Also a vey nice arrangement. Best of luck. POW

Hi neighbor!

I have a NEF Handi Rifle in .30-06 which I put a pistol scope on this year.  It doesn't screw up the carry like a regular scope as you can wrap your hand around it at the frame.
