After taking my catch in and selling them today, I think I should learn how to put up my own fur. I had one grinner, one rat, and one coon. I received $9.
Possum=$1
Rat=$3
Good sized coon=$5
The coon had a rub the size of a quarter on its neck.
I sure expected a little more for the coon after following threads from other websites. Anyway here is my question. How can I make a fleshing beam? Type and size of wood, length and width. Thanks for your help, again. Mike

possum price if small or med price right, Rat price great, coon price right becuase of rubbed spot and also you didnt say what size coon.... Fleshing beam get yrself a 2x6 board approx 4 to 5 feet long. taper fm nose to approx three feet back dimensions approximately size of fox board... Taper surface of beam the contour of your fleshing knife. You can use pine or whatever you can get for yr fleshing board. A hardwood is best but just starting out a pine would be alright for starters

On the prices- RdFx called it. There are a number of reasons one person might get more for their fur than someone else. However, don't always count on what you read or hear about fur prices. Sometimes there is some hype that just doesn't pan out. I usually figure on the bottom end and hope for an increase as season progresses. That way I am not to dissappointed. :-) I didn't see the fur the other fellow sold, so I cannot say that he got more for the same grade and size fur than I got. Just don't read to much into what is said about "my coon sold for X$". As an example: Your Wisconsin coon will bring more than my Oklahoma coat type coon even if they are the same size. So if I see where your XXL brings $12 and I think I am going to get the same, I will surely be in for a surprise.

Yeah, I can understand that. I am not really trapping to get rich anyway, I was just kind of surprised with the coon is all. I expected less on the other two. I just turned around and bought some fox urine with the money anyway. I figured I would turn whatever money I get this year into more traps and supplies for next year and the next, and the next, etc.

THERE YOU GO!! Good attitude. Save your money for more traps and don't get discouraged. I am not trying to cut anyone out of a lure or urine sale here, but, if you need a little more lure or some urine, I will be glad to send you some at no cost to you. Don't expect it more than once however

I have a number of lures from different makers and for different furbearers, so I can send you some quality lures. My gift for a guy who wants to learn and tries hard. :wink: Just email or pm me if you want some.
