That's one I don't have yet in a Handi.....I keep tellin myself 3 in the house is enough (leverguns), then some lame butt gets on here and brags about one, and I get the "gottahaves".  The thought has occurred to me to sell one levergun and buy two Handis ::) ::)  Good luck with yours.

thanks,

This one is ilion production as well, and just like the hornet Very Very tight! in fact the lever was a major pain to get open right away, I thought I may have to send the dang thing back, but it opens now, but like said, very very tight!

Now to get the new stocks ordered and then the fun begins!!!!!!

Let me know if you ever fix the tight lever and how you did it. I have a used Handi that needs both thumbs to open. Otherwise OK.

Tight barrel release is caused by several things. If it does it on an unfired gun, you can lap the shelf and latch with a mild abrasive, I've used Flitz, it you want something more agressive, valve grinding compound will work much faster, but use it very sparingly and only work the button a few times, then clean it off and test. If after firing, it's usually caused by poor latch engagement or too hot a load. I've also seen some different colored latch springs that are heavier than normal, they have a redish tint instead of the normal brownish or metallic color, these are on late Gardner made frames, it's possible they've taken some hints from discussions here and improved the latch spring strength in the last few years.

You gotta have one! Find a Topper though, much lighter (mine is <5 lbs with iron sights)!

To be honest, I've been looking for a Topper, and I'd snag it in a heartbeat.  Even if I didn't like it, I couldn't loose on it.  Now that I'm getting my loading goodies together, it'd be a lot of fun to poke a light pointy bullet thru a .30-30.

I have some 110 or 130 barnes on order for mine. Can't remember which. I want to find a load with them and the Corelokts or Cast that have the with the light bullets zeroed around 75 yards, the 170's are close at say 40. May not be able to, but it would be nice.
