What makes a firearm a carbine rifle (definition)

I need help learning what makes a firearm a carbine rifle. I was interested in purchasing a Keltec- sub2000 fire arm and i was wondering if i could carry it in my truck. also anybody know any info about Hi-cap magazines in the state of texas, where can you go with them and where cant you go.

The word "carbine" dates back to the French word carabine, meaning a soldier armed with a musket. Since the popularity of the M1 30 cal Carbine, all short barreled, light rifles are called carbines, no matter what type of action they have.
