Plinking CB load w/Unique for 35/30-30
« on: March 28, 2010, 09:25:11 AM »
I have a Martini Cadet in 35-30/30; for hunting I shoot 180-200 jacketed bullets.  I am interested in light "plinking" loads using 125-160 gr cast bullets and Unique.  Any suggestions?

Thanking you in advance for suggestions.

Dont you think 8gr Unique would fit your need.  Six or seven in a 357mag does a good job.  You can check loads for 357 Herrett, too.    Richard

Ya might want to check out Hodgden's web site and give a look at Trail boss It is looking to be the cats meow in light loads. Will work with any cartridge looks like to me. 8)

+1 on the Trailboss. I use it in most everything I have, including the 35X30-30, 35 Rem, 358 Win, etc. Just pick a bullet, figure out how deep to seat it, your load fills the case to the base of the bullet. If the bullet fits, accuracy is terrific and it burns very clean.

There would be a little difference in case capacity but I use 12.5gr Herco with a 180 LFN in my 35 Rem. It's literally a ragged hole gun at 50 yds.  In working up loads, 1/2gr at that level made a big difference. I believe I chrono'd the load but don't remember off hand. It's a mild ,quiet load that's accurate enough for squirrels and has enough "stuff" for deer if I really needed to. I like it.

My light load for 30-30 with 113gr Cast is 10 gr of Unique at around 1677 fps! Very accurate!   ;D
