Thinking of getting back into bowhunting. Need some advice
« on: November 29, 2003, 03:26:57 AM »
I quit bowhunting about 8 years ago. I decided to try my hand at shooting Trap in the fall. I guess my question is. I have an old Browning Mirage I bought back in 1991. By todays standards it long ,heavy , and only 65% letoff. What do you think I should do? I can strip it down and upgrade the sights , rest and quiver, or just can it and start from scratch. It always was a good shooting bow even though it could have been tuned a little better. Being a lefty I was at the mercy of the proshop I bought it at, price and what he had to set it up. It has a cheap centerrest and a Martin dovetail system which includes sight and quiver, and weighs a ton. I'll probrably never really be as avid as a bowhunter some on here.  :?:  :?: What should I do restore a classic or just buy all new

Thanks

Straight-- You have a bow! If you want to ad a few newbies to it go for it. There's not much sense in putting out alot of money if you don't think you will stay with it. You can enjoy what you have with very little investment. You may need to check out the string and cables though. You can be a very good archer with the set up you have . A fast bow will help you in judging yardage or rather the misjudging yardage! But it will also be alot more critical shooting a shorter bow also. I say -Stay with what you have and if you like it then you can step up! In my opinion I would take it back to a Pro Shop and let them set it back up probably with a new cable and string. At least you would get a fair start! Good luck!!

The bow will never be more than it was.  If you liked it, then stick with it until you know for sure that bowhunting is where you want to be.  Otherwise, look seriously at Mathews and Hoyt. I had a Browning Mirage for about a year . . . it was ok, but there are much better bows out there today.  I too found it difficult to tune correctly.  But if you do not know a lot obout compounds you will have to rely on a proshop to set you up right.  Good luck.
