Jeff

I have hunted and fished there years ago. It's a good size area to hunt. I have never been to the range, but by past excursions up there, I would say there would not be a crowd.

I would call them..

I joined a club in Utica... it has a 25, 50 and 100 yd range for $60/per year. (Close to where I work)

Crosley is a good place to shoot.  It is an unmanned range.  They have a 25, 50, 100 and 200 yard range.  I liked playing on the 200 yard range with the Contender pistols, that is a different ballgame when you start stretching the distance out.  They also have a place you can set up a skeet thrower.  I used to go to Atterbury every weekend in the winter then started going to Crosley when they were rebuilding the range,  have only been once since it has been finished.  Atterbury is only open on the weekend now since the people running it got out of their contract and the state is currently running it again.

Let me know if you need some directions to get to the Crosley range from the North.  Their is a backway in that is a lot closer than people not familiar with area know, the range is hard to find.

Luckily I moved which is why I have only been to Atterbury once since it was redone.  Now I live in the middle of nowhere and have a 50 and 100 yard bench next to the house.

Thanks, I would like to know the back way into the Range.   Would be coming from Columbus at US31.   Glad to hear Atterbury is under new management, the guys that were there NOT! friendly and rather rude.  The first time I went there after the Remodel they said $2 an hour Minimum two hours. Then they changed to $15 an hour. Then when they were loosing buisness they dropped to $7.5 with a $5 Recovery Fee which if you didn't hit the walls or target frames you got it back.    At Crosley can you shoot Steel Targets?   Also at Atterbury if your on the 50 yd. and you wanted to go to the 100 yd. you had to go into the Office and fill out Paperwork(15min.) for the change and that was on your shooting time BS.    Thanks Jeff   :)

Take 31S then SR7S
Go through North Vernon
When you get to Vernon there is a curve to the left before the courthouse - Go right at the curve
Right at the first stop sign
You will cross a bridge
You will cross another bridge
You will come to a Y - Stay to the left at the Y
Turn left on first road
Look for some stone pilliars beside the road
Turn left at the stone pillars
The road will turn to gravel and the range is just a short distance

Sorry, no road names but I have given those directions to others and they have always found it.

Sorry to hear that about Atterbury.  I still go up to Indy alot to visit family and friends and always think I should go shoot.  Maybe I had better pass.  The old range was getting old, but they built the new range with mostly federal money from our ammo and gun purchases (can't remember the name of that tax, Pittman Robison maybe?) and then they go from a free range to a fancy range that they raise the prices to high levels on.  Maybe it will be better in the future.

The stations are not very big.  4 people per station if I remember right.  It is usually not very crowded though.  If you are used to Atterbury, Crosley will be a nice enjoyable change of pace.

I Have been going to Crosley for years now and to tell the truth it is getting kind of aggravating. Not that the range is bad but the stupid people showing up. My brother in law and I go there quite often and we will shoot what ever from 22LR up to my my 308 and some black powder guns. Recently we were shooting 223 and 22LR at the 200 yd line and when we left there was teenagers shoting clay pigeon on the 30 yd rifle range when there is a trap range not 100 yds away from them. And another guy shooting a AR15 at the 15 yrd range. And the time before that there was a guy shooting a 30-06 at the 15 yrd range.
I dont know maybe its just me but I wouldnt waste the ammo at 15 yrds.
