Sincerely frustrated...new PC with "issues"...need help
« on: April 03, 2010, 03:28:48 PM »
Several idiocyncrasies have poped up that are driving me to drink.

1.)  When I am REPLYING or STARTING a GBO thread and fill in the initial white space with text, the next line of text that will wrap below the green border (at least that is the border color on my PC), a line of text that should remain visible above the border as I type, doesn't.  It immediately "hides" below the border and every letter I type continues to "raise" the text line momentarily above the border then it "hides" below again.  It is almost as if I am "restricted" to the original white space.  Imagine typing, such that before every typed letter and after typing a letter you are BLIND, but momentarily, during the act of typing the letter, everything is visible above the border.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm......interesting, now it isn't doing it in this Forum or on this thread, but it was in the NEF Handi Forum.  Stupid intermittent PC.

2.)  On this next one I suspect the security setting is too high.  When I click on a hyperlink in a thread, a *.jpg, video, or any hot link I get NOTHING, zilch, nada.  My old PC, probably operating on IE 5.0 (+/-), would just navigate to the link.

I suspect some settings have changed in the new PC.  I am running IE 8.0.  It is very frustrating and I am certain it is a couple of Global toggles that needs to be turned on or off, but I don't know which ones.

I am running IE 8.0.

Wal there's your problem. When I upgraded to IE8 it did the same for me. Lots of others have complained of it as well. Dunno what changed but I assume my computer upgraded to a different version of IE as it stopped. Most folks who were complaining seem not to be anymore either. IE8 is bad news with this software.

So long as you are sure you have a legal licensed copy of your OS on your computer you can just go to the Microsoft site and check for available updates and down load them.

I assume there must be a newer version of IE than IE8 as mine did this when it upgraded from IE7 to IE8 but now has stopped doing it both here and at Bigfoot Study so it has to be either that my OS has been upgraded to a new IE version or Matt has upgraded the software on our sites. Since some of you are still having the problem I have to assume the change took place on my computer not on our servers.

You could also change to a different browser like Firefox (that is what I use) or Google chrome. Both work very well.
