I can't find 630 on a burning rate chart.  Does anyone have an idea which powders would be before and after it?  Can anyone point me to a chart which lists 630??  Thanks.

Harim,

630 falls in the AL-8, Blue Dot (faster), 2400 (slower) burning rate.  I have but a few ounces of this precious powder left.  It is a dang good performer in the 357 Magnum where I used it mostly.  If you have some of it, data is available from some of the older reloading manuals.  Good-luck…BCB

Not as slow as 2400 or AL8, roughly in the same range as Bluedot.  A good powder in 45 Colt.  Need manuals from the mid-'70s.  Also check Ken Waters Pet Loads.  He used a fair amount when available.  In higher loads, still has a little 'ball' powder flash.

630 was once a top powder for the 41 mag. But I think I read that it didn't always behave well at extreme temperatures (cold) and that is one reason it was discontinued.  Since I sometimes shot at -20 F, I decided to use mine up during the summer.  H110 and Win 296 have more than replaced 630 in the 41 mag.

The Speer # 9 manual lists 630 as slightly quicker than Hercules 2400 and slightly slower than AL 8 and Blue Dot - they are probably all very close depending on the batch.  You might locate one of those manuals if you are looking for loads.

Dand is right.  A powder for temperate zones.
