Which pump/auto Shotguns have a solid botto
« on: November 17, 2003, 02:42:09 AM »
All my Remington 870's have "solid" lifters.  My Browning BPS has the 2 finger lifting system probably like your Mossberg.   These are the only ones I'm familiar with...oh yeah my Smith & Wesson Model 1000M 20 gauge is a solid lifter also.

Solid shell lifters

Chris:  Remingtons do, both the 870 series and the 1100/11-87 series.  I first noticed the difference myself yesterday (opening morning) looking at my buddy's Mossburg pump with an exposed case head and no shell lifter to protect it.  HTH.  Mikey.

Remingtons are on the rear of the trigger guard (look right behind the trigger)  The small tab in the front of the trigger guard is to unlock the action manually.

The Winchesters (IIRC - I don't own one) are on the rear of the upper reciever (called Tang safeties) in a very convient location for flipping on and off with your thumb.  My Browning BPS is the same way.

IMO - The safety location on the Remingtons is the only flaw in these utilitarian shotguns.  With a tang safety it would be the perfect field gun IMO

Sorry for the pic being so dark. This is a new camera I just picked up;So, I need to practice with it.

This is a Winchester model 1300 Defender. The safety is in front of the trigger guard. The small tab at the rear of the reciever is to manually unlock the action using your thumb. This is the same setup on my model 12's also.

Thanks for posting the info on the Win 1300, obviously I was mistaken on the location of the safety.  Are all Winchesters this way?  Again, I don;t own one but I thought some models had tang safeties?

It seems like it would be even more awkward than the Remington safety.  Have you had a chance to try both?  What are your opinions/thoughts?

My father taught me on Remingtons at age 12. I am 38 now, and only want to use my Winchesters. I have nothing bad to say about Remingtons. In fact, if I had anything to say about them it would be only possitive. I just enjoy "Shucking" with my Winchesters more than anything else. Yes, I really do mean "Anything else". When I am out shooting clays, more people stop me to look at my Model 12's, then they would if I was carring an 870. Not that I want that, I am just trying to convey my point about Winchester pumps.

OOPPS, I guess I forgot to answer your first question. As far as I know, All model 12's and 1300's have this type of safety; But, I have had no reason to use other Winchester models. I never use the safeties, I just know that they are there.
