Firelapping .44's
« on: August 24, 2010, 10:01:22 AM »
I'm getting ready to firelap three or four....a .44mag two 44 specials and maybe my Marlin.  For you fellas that have been there and done that...what powder are you using?  I've made some loads with 2-3 grains of bullseye and shot them in my TC and it was like throwing rocks...maybe a range of 50 yards or so.
Any recommendations for getting just out the end of the barrel with some 240's?
thanks in advance!

Last time I was firelapping I used about a 50% load of trailboss and it worked well. Pretty much the same thing as your bullseye load. Just want to get them to clear the barrel.

Had I read completely through the directions (how unmanly!) :-[, I would have seen Veral's recommendation of powder.   I started off with 2.5 grains of Bullseye with some 250g lead bullets, it penetrated two milk jugs and kept going.  Dropped back to 1.5 and stuck two in the barrel.  Back up to 1.7 and worked like a charm.  Like they say in the diet commercials.."your results may vary".  This was in the .44 Mag Redhawk.  Now for the .44 Specials!
