Does the 22-250 take large or small rifle primers? Thanks Dale

Whatever your load data says, normally large rifle.  ;)

I'm not aware of any brand of case that takes the SR primer. All I've ever run across took large rifle. Some powders might call for magnum primers but I've not used anything but the standard LR primers so far. I admit I've not done a lot of loading for my SPS Varmint like yours. What I have done so far has been limited to H380 which really got its name from the use of 38.0 grains of it in .22-250 so I'd say it is kinda ideal for the round.

Now that warm weather is back perhaps I can get out and shoot it some more and play around with different loads.

Well I was just wondering because I was up at Walmart and they had a bunch of small rifle primers and I thought even though I do not reload yet (but will real soon) I would pick some up seeing as how hard the primers are to come by. Thanks Dale

I think that primers are starting to be easier to get. The local Gander Mountain has lots of primers at $5 and $8 a hundred, depending on what you want. Oh, and powder is $30/pound for the cheap stuff and $40 for the more expensive stuff, plenty there too. They got to be kidding, but there are lots of supplies of every kind. They were selling the primers as fast as they came in, even at $5 and limits on how much you could buy. Since people are unwilling to buy at these steep prices, the folks must have enough or have found other source. I personally have enough.

My 22-250 loves GM215M w/H-380 and Nosler 50gr BT when I switched from Std. LR primers to the 215M my groups shrunk by 1/2"

That does not mean anyone else's will but mine did.

LaOtto222,

In NW Ohio the local candy shop has bricks of 1,000 primers for $32 to $35 depending on manufacturer and type.  They have everything SR, SP, LR, SR, magnums and BR.  Their inventory is growning, maybe the economy around here is so bad no one is buying them.  Also, their powder supply is good but prices have went up.  Prices are $18 to $28 per pound on the powder.  I noticed someone got sneaky on the 700X as a pound now weighs 14oz. :'( They are less than a hour drive from the OH/IN border on I80/90.  PM me if you want to be vectored to their storefront one day.
