A rumor of a "message" to Iran.....
« on: April 06, 2010, 04:54:05 AM »
Heard this morning that a few weeks ago, a Trident sub test launched a Trident missle in the Arabian Gulf; but no word of it in the American press that I've heard of.
Gotta admit, not much of a stonger "hint" that that sort of show of force.

The Trident is a multi warhead ICBM, One is capable of leaving most of Iran basically uninhabitable. If they did fire one from the Arabian Gulf it was for sure just a show of force, Because if they wanted to they could take out Iran from the Atlantic ocean, And unless the Russians or China one told them it was coming they would never know what sent them to Hadies. 8)

Development

Trident I (designated C4) was deployed in 1979 and phased out in the 1990s and early 2000s. Trident II (D5) was first deployed in 1990, and was planned to be in service for the thirty year life of the submarines, until 2027.

Trident missiles are provided to the United Kingdom under the terms of the 1963 Polaris Sales Agreement which was modified in 1982 for Trident. British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher had written to President Carter on July 10, 1980 to request that he approve supply of Trident I missiles. However in 1982 Thatcher wrote to President Reagan to request the United Kingdom be allowed to procure the Trident II (designated D5) system, the procurement of which had been accelerated by the US Navy. This was agreed in March 1982.[1] Under the agreement, the United Kingdom made a 5% research and development contribution.
[edit]
D5 life extension

In 2002, the United States Navy announced plans to extend the life of the submarines and the D5 missiles to the year 2040.[2] This requires a D5 Life Extension (D5LE) Program, which is currently underway. The main aim is to replace obsolete components at minimal cost by using commercial off the shelf (COTS) hardware; all the while maintaining the demonstrated performance of the existing Trident II missiles. In 2007, Lockheed Martin was awarded a total of $789.9 million in contracts to perform this work, which also includes upgrading the missiles' guidance and reentry systems.[3] Then-Prime Minister Tony Blair was quoted as saying the issue would be fully debated in Parliament prior to a decision being taken.[4] Blair outlined plans in Parliament on December 4, 2006 to build a new generation of submarines to carry existing Trident missiles, and join the D5LE project to refurbish them.[5]

Just had to read the National Security Strategy, National Defense Strategy and National Military Strategy and write a paper on them ... y'all might want to read those first, then speculate what the US can or will not do. Just today Obama indicated a major modification to the NSS with regards to nukes. I'd read those 3 documents first then carefully read what he is suggesting.

OK I confess it was me I fired the dang Trident. I had so much of the gum laying around some of it had to go so I fired off a few bubbles and one got out of control and might have landed somewhere it shouldn't have.

So yeah Dan maybe I am a bit bored cuz I just flat am not able to get out and do the things I know need to be done. With my BP this low 98/56 just standing causes me to feel like I'm gonna black out and hit the floor.

Heck chewing that trident gum might be more work than I'm up to rat now.

I've been takin one about a year now. If I would drop about 25 lbs, I wouldn't have to take one at all.

If I were to drop the extra 100 pounds I'm carrying around I suspect I'd need a lot fewer pills and likely would have less aches and pains as well. Of course dropping that much weight requires will power beyond what I have in changing of diet and exercise that my body just isn't capable of without several surgeries first.

Bill, any chance ya might be dehydrated? If'n you're dehydrated, BP will go down, especially if you're an old fart. Less water will also keep the BP meds in your system longer. And coffee is a diuretic, draws water out of your system, if you're a coffeehound like I am. Just sayin'... Take care.

Not really Barb. I drink two cups of coffee daily one to wake up when I get up in the morning and one more to wake up from my daily nap.  ;D I drink adequate water daily so nope not currently dehydrated tho come summer if I'm able to get out and work as I have in the past I'll sure get that way from time to time but Gatorade takes care of that as soon as I get back to the house.

Howsomeever iffen my shortness of breath issues and dizziness don't improve their ain't gonna be enough work going on to get dehydrated even this summer.

Wow do you have no clue of my problems.

Can't lift weights anymore. Former weight lifter tho but those days are sadly long behind me. Unlike you I'm not still a young tike and the years have taken their toll. Both shoulders are shot and both need surgery in the worst way. Did some serious damage to the left arm doing just that lifting weights back about mid 80s. Haven't been able to since.

Yoga? I have enough trouble sitting in a chair, can't get up off the floor without help. This old arthritic body can't bend like that and haven't been able to in at least 20 years.
