Cannon plans I was sent
« on: April 09, 2010, 01:56:45 PM »
Hi,

Im not sure if they were from a member here but I just remember it was from a forum and this is one I have visited for a while now.

I was sent the full cad print out to make this cannon in 2005 from Joe in Australia. Is Joe still with us? Have a question if you are, A friend would like a copy and I dont wish to break copyright etc.

Nice.  Looks like an iron version of the SAMCC gun.  Nah, too long.  The double astragals confused me.

Isn't that a copy of a cannon from HMS Endeavour?

Beautiful work!  Is there a socially acceptable name for the splice used on the breech rope?  I know what it's called in O'Brien's work but I'm pretty sure you can't use it here, very nice splice regardless. P 143 A Sea of Words.

Owen,
You did a really fine job on the gun, carriage, and deck.
Did you fashion the tackle hooks yourself, or are they something that you found premade?
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Hmmm...you first commented on the thread at 8:43pm yesterday, but the kewpies were issued much later...perhaps some persuasion involved in the tripple kewpie issuing?  Would a bribe for kewpies be considered kewpie kash?

Regardless...well deserved Owen!

Owen,   Mike and I love your cannon; it's so realistic that, without those nearby leaves, it would be very difficult to say with any certainty what size it is.  We really like the carriage, but the tube stands out to us.  If it is not a secret, could you tell us what material did you use for the tube and what is the technique you used to finish it? We like the look very much and, in our view, it's very unique.

Beautiful work!
