My new .44 mag range report
« on: April 08, 2010, 09:45:11 AM »
I got a shooter ;D

Sorry , but no pics, it was a rainy day and I didn't want to take the camera out.

I bought a Handi .44 mag a couple weeks ago, topped it off with medium Burris Zee rings and a Redfield 2-7x33 scope.

I started my sight-in at 30 yards so I could get it on paper. I started off with some WWB 240 grain Jacketed soft points to get her close. First shot was 6 inches low and 6 inches to the left. Not bad for a hillbilly bore-sight.  ;D 8 shots late, I had a perfect bullseye, then the next two shots toughed the first bullseye. I was very happy! I did not clean the barrel once in those 11 shots, other than the initial barrel cleaning when I received the gun of course.

Then I moved back to 50 yards, first shot bulls, second shot touched the first shot. Third shot went 2 inches low and 2 inches left. I just thought it was me so I shot another and it wasn't and better. Then, I decided to go ahead and clean the barrel. First three shots with the clean barrel touched bullseye. I figured she was sighted in pretty good, so I cleaned it (boy that WWB ammo is freaking dirty) and switched up to some Hornady Leverevolution.

First shot with the Hornady was 3 inches high and 2 inches left. I went ahead and shot another to make sure it was grouping, and it was. I adjusted the scope accordingly. Next shot bullseye, then two more touching.  ;D I went ahead and shot a total of 15 Hornady's and the entire group was less than 3 inches. Not too bad, considering by this time I was getting a little tired. (BTW, that Hornady ammo is about the cleanest that I have ever seen for a large pistol caliber)

Before I called it a day, I moved back to 100 yards for the heck of it and shot a 2" three shot group. All 1 inch low of the bulls.

So it shoots dead-on at 50 yards (which most of my shooting should be) and 1" low at 100 yards with the Hornady ammo.

I must say, I am impressed with this gun and the scope. I will definitely be buying the same scope for my 357 Maximum Handi.

I not ready to think about mounting a scope yet. Maybe after the grandkids get use to open sites first. How is it in reaching the hammer ? Need a hammer extension ? Any problem opening the rifle ? GRANDKIDS HAVE SMALL HANDS

You will definitely need a hammer extension with just about any scope.

Why was I thinking that nef did not sell 44's and 357's with sights anymore?

They sell those little wood stocked Trappers with sights.

My 44 magnum barrel and my 223 Superlite are my favorite barrels. In fact they are all I have at present.
