Seacoast mortars (little)
« on: April 10, 2010, 06:21:38 AM »
Recieved my new 1 inch mortar from Dom and it's a beauty.  Placed it in battery with the Petersen GB mortar, now I need a Dingdong caliber to round out the
group.

Glad you enjoyed it!  Tom Petersen is a member of the Board and had actually posted pictures of the GB mortar here several years ago- he made three and this was his personal one.
Regarding the sound, the little Nikon's mike was overwhelmed and cut the volume about 90db, but if you listen again note the echo following the first shot.
With 200 gr of FF and a Fox steel ball it was plenty loud.
Dan the chambers on both are of identical design. a truncated cone shape.

did you use different granulations ??
its so much more of a "thump" in the second shot

Dan, same FF powder in both,a lot more of it in the first shot with subsequently more severe muting by the camera mike. The first shot actually produced a thump you felt as much as heard, very visceral.
