My 375JDJ Handi
« on: April 12, 2010, 03:07:44 PM »
Well I'm almost finished.  I will blue her this week then continue with load devolopment.
right now it shoots 200 grain Sierra FP on top of IMR 4895 in 7/8" @ 100 yds but the
velocity in pretty slow (2100 fps)

This is a easy & quick mod I did to the hammer spure to lower the hammer spur extension.
Just use a dremel with a small radius stone & thin the underside of the spur till the
extension slides down farther on the spur.  Just watch that the extension doesn't interfer
with that lever on the right or the gun will flop open when you cock it. ;D
Try to look unimportant.   Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Looks good Doug, but you don't have to do all that work on the hammer, it's a lot easier to change the shoulder on the hammer extension to sit lower, you only have to trim the tip of the hammer spur then. It will only work so low on the hammer or the barrel release gets in the way as you found out unless you move it to the left side, all this is in the FAQs tho, not exactly new trails being blazed here. When ya start using RL7, you'll see better velocities.  ;)

RL7 seems way too fast.  I tried 46.0 gr got pancake flat primers then dropped to 44.0 grains & same thing!
Next will be 40.0 & see what happens.  I'm also thinking about IMR 4064.

What's the COL and case volume in grains of water filled to overfill? I can run it through QL for ya.

Hate to ask a stupid question, but what caliber did you start with on this?
12g shortie w/chokes,Tamer .410,12g "Buck" slug gun w/20g extra barrel, 12g smooth bore tracker I, 45/410 w/22vp matched set, 7mm-08, .308 20",

my avatar pic is my 1960 Rambler I bought in 1972 for $175..6 banger 3-on-the-tree...drove it for 5 yrs  22mpg.. was "hot-rodding" (LOL) one night...tore out 1st/reverse gear. Drove it that way for 2 yrs(with no reverse and only 2nd and high)  Had to really plan ahead when parking.
sold it for $125

Quicktdoo the grains of water is 64.0 & the COL is 2.800  I used a Shilen # 6 barrel & recontoured it to
about a 4 1/2 contour.  Trouble has been that all the reloading data i can find is for Contender pistols not rifle data.  :-\

IMR4064 is too slow, IMR4198 looks good tho, I'll PM you the predicted data.
