Rechambering the 45LC to 460S&W

Hello All,
I have really been enjoying the older threads on rechambering a 45LC to 454 Casul and 460 S&W. I 've been thinking of doing this with a 45 BC of mine for some time now and after all the research, still have a few questions for you that have done it.  So, on to my questions;

How is the recoil with the 454 and 460 with the hotter loads? (In a 6.5 Lb carbine, the 460 sounds like it might be a handful)
Did Fred ever get the 460 ream and what does it cost for the rechamber?
For those of you that went with the 460, is there a significant loss in accuracy when shooting 45LC and 454?
Have any of you noticed any adverse effects to the firearm with these chamberings over long term use?

I saw where Tim apparently did the conversion to 460 in Re: 45 Colt/454 Casull thoughts , But the thread ended and I never got to hear how it turned out or (more importantly) how well it shot. Thanks in advance for your feedback. I truely appreciate it.

Welcome Vern! I've only shot the Hornady 200gr factory ammo in mine and one handload, the factory ammo ran ~2875fps and 2-3" 100yd groups with a scope. The handloads were Hornady 250gr SST ML bullets with Lil'gun, accuracy was about the same, but that's the same experience some of the Encore Kathadin shooters have experienced with Lil'gun, they found 2400 is a better choice, so that's what I'll try next. Haven't shot Colt or Casull in it since the rechamber, did mine myself by hand with a rented reamer from 4D, it's listed on his website.

I am having mine reamed to 454 by Wayne.  I'm just afraid I will goof and get chatter gouges in the throat.  Feel more confident having a professional do it, and he has a really reasonable price for doing it.  We had a brief discussion via email about it, and he agreed that, since I want to still be able to shoot the 45LC with some kind of accuracy, the 454 is a better way to go.  The jump to the lands is just that much longer for the 460.  In that case, any rounds you load that are little out of center could cause throat and accuracy problems.  If all you want to shoot is the 460 Smith, I would say go for it.  I did not want to have to buy a complete new set of dies, and with the 454, I can use the 45LC dies, with the exception of the full length sizer.

I re-chambered mine to 454. Its still shoots great in 45Colt. Al-tho it doesn't shoot the same loads it like before the re-chamber as well... just a bit of time testing different loads resulted in a couple different load that shoot very well.

For me the 460 was just a 45/70 by another name. Even then, its not as good with the real heavy weights!! Sure it shoots the ultra light 200's fast... to my mind...I say so. (I and a staunch supporter of heavy weight for caliber bullets on game)

i have all 4 previously mentioned calibers.
and they all do a great job in the application they were intended.
from a tractor gun to a airboat gun, and every other place else if needed.
my reason for the .460 handi is because my smith handgun....
same as the colt and casull, to match other handguns i have. won't be long till i have
the new 45/70 handgun !!!!   just waiting for better custom options.

and the main reason i did it was... cuz i can !!!!
