Long range fun with .357 Max

So i went to a different range on Sunday (mine had a special event) and did some longer range shooting with the max.

I have always liked the idea of the BSA Martini .310 Cadet rifles used by Australia, and had a hankering to try my Handi in that fashion.

They had some steel gongs at the 200 yard line and my first 5 shots dropped right in with some "Kentucky elevation". 

That was with my "good" load. Then I switched to the bag of "not very accurate" handloads that I wanted to burn up.

With those I was hitting about 50% of the time. All this was done with the factory iron sights.

I can't wait to try the aperture sight I'm making, it should make it much more consistant with my eyes.


With a "modern" scoped rig it is pretty easy to shoot at 200, but it was much more fun to go old school.

I can appreciate the fun you've had.  I love nothing more than walking out my pistol caliber Handis to 300 yards and finding where they ring the gong.  Folks will tell ya this or that gun is only a hundred yard rifle, but all my Handis are good to 300 yard or better.  No, they may not kill a deer at that range, but all of them will take out a small critter like a chuck or a crow, and it's a lot of fun figuring the wind, elevation distance, and doing it.  Good on ya!
