94 AE 7-30 Waters
« on: April 17, 2010, 09:22:56 AM »
Just back from the local gun show and ran across a new Winchester 94 chambered in 7-30 Waters.  Have had a barrel for the same for close to 10 years to make one, but won't need to now.  Had one made up using a Handi rifle and really like the cartridge.  No box, but all the papers from the original owner.  $475 out the door with it, think I did good.  DP
RIP Oct 27, 2017

Nice score, and a good buy to boot !

Did you get the harder-to-find rifle, or the 20" carbine ?

20" carbine, never liked the looks of the ''boat paddle" butt stock on the 24" one. :-\  Know anyone who wants a factory 7-30 waters barrel? ;D  DP

An AE barrel ?  Nope - My Win 94's are top-eject, and I don't want a 7-30 bad enough to rework the barrel for a different extraxtor cut, etc.

It ought to go fairly quick in the classifieds, or on gunbroker/etc.

BTW - I've never seen a Win 94 7-30 rifle with a monte carlo/boat paddle stock like some of the BB94's were issued with.
The three I've seen all had standard buttstocks.

Might be the old brain not memberin right ???, I thought the 24" ones had the Monte stock.  Ran 30 rounds through it this morning, worked great.  At 100 yd the bead covered the aim point on the target so the groups aren't so good.  I'm not so good with iron sights, will put a scope on this one, likely a Weaver K2.5 as I have a few of them.  Did manage to do a little rock bustin with it ;D and did ok with that.  The 7-30 always suprises me on how "snappy" it is in recoil, maybe the stock design?  Maybe not as it suprised me in my Handi rifle as well.  Not to the point of hurting, but I was shooting a 25-06 and a Marlin 375 Win at the range with the 7-30 and it was more than you might think compared to those 2.  DP
