Pellet weight variance question
« on: April 18, 2010, 04:47:35 PM »
My daughter is involved in 4H shooting sports, 10 meter air rifle.  This is our first year and so far we are doing well.  She has a Daisy 953. My question relates to the pellets.  How much variance is acceptable , or is going to make a difference at 33 feet.  I weighed a batch of pellets on my Pact digital scale and all ran from 7.8 to 8.2, with most being under 8gr.  Am I being too OCD?
Thanks
Jeff

I never bothered to weigh them, but in your case, shooting match, that's almost a .5 grain difference in weight, I would think it would cause some vertical stringing. I'd either weigh them and stick to shooting the ones that I had the most of, or better yet spring for some really good match grade pellets and go from there IMO.......................steg

most of the hunting/ better pellets it not so much. I don't remeber but in the USA air rilfes book they listed all the pellets and most were 7.9-8.0gr so not very much. Some like the crosman wadcuts they all are the same or they used to be. They gone down some over the years. I used to shoot a cromman 2200 mag with daisy 22 wadcut pellets and from sitting it would shoot hole in hole with those pellets.
