Robin Hood
« on: May 19, 2010, 03:00:43 AM »

My favorite Robin Hood movie features Errol flynn and Olivia DeHavilland; it was produced in 1938.  This was the first Technicolor film of all time!  As a side note, the large trees and park like settings were filmed within Bidwell Park of northern California near Chico.

When I attended USAF NCO Academy years ago, this film was used to illustrate genuine leadership principals and practise. Flynn came across as a self-less leader with strong loyalites and enthusiasm for truth & justice.  In contrast, the Kevin Costner version was entertaining but he did not portray the same strong leadership as Flynn.

The illustration above was painted by Andrew Wyeth.  He illustrated many book covers and advertisements. His art can viewed at Brandywine River Museum in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

We're anticipating the new Robin Hood movie!

Please share your thoughts about Robin hood and this classic legend.

This probably should have been posted over in traditional, but its all good.

I haven't seen the new movie yet, but will after seeing several movie trailers on the new one.

Robin Hood - Archery Practice is a great preview.

I grew up on Errol Flin films, course for me they were all re-runs, but I always was there to watch an Errol Flin movie when it came on. In "The Adventures of Robin Hood" there's a scene in the movie where Robin's men jump out of a great oak tree...I saw that tree. I was in California doing some tech work for HP back in the late 80's and one of my co-workers took me out and showed me around the area. The limbs were so heavy that they were propped up with logs to keep them from snapping off. But I remember that tree... 8)

At the Premire showing of the Kevin Costner film, we had an archery demo, and several of us were on stage before the showing of the film shooting arrows at targets across that stage and sword fighting. That was such a blast...it was at the Campus West Theaters in Ft Collins.

I cannot wait for this latest re-make of the Robin Hood Legend to be released...it really looks to be well done and historically accurate (I hope I hope I hope).

Henry Frap the "Mountain Men"

“Ain't this somethin'? I told my pap and mam I was going to be a mountain man; acted like they was gut-shot. Mother Gue said to me; ‘Make your life go here, son. Here's where the people is. Them mountains is for Indians and wild men.’  "Mother Gue", I says "the Rocky Mountains is the marrow of the world," and by God, I was right. Keep your nose in the wind and your eye along the skyline.”

When I was with USAF, I worked in northern California. This was 25 years ago.  My wife and I visited Bidwell Park in Springtime when many flowers and colorful blossums were present. I'll never forget this amazing place.
