camokodiak: A buncha years ago when I used to shoot sillywets, we found that with most handguns, and especially the 44 magnums, if we were shooting a 7.5" Ruger Blackhawk/Super Blackhawk or a 6" S&W, an average 3 clicks of sight elevation would getcha dead on at 50 yds with a silght holdover for 100 (or just go up another 3 clicks). If you left it with your 50 yd sight-in, you would hit at about the same elevation at 25 yds and a hair or two low at 75. Some fellas felt the 180 gn load didn't have sufficient carry, or balance, to hit out beyond 50 yds or so, and weren't having much luck on the 100 or farther targets.
All our shooting back then was with the 240 grain bullets and they carried just fine all the way to 200yds. I think that if you practice with the 240s, and for what you would like to hunt the 240 gn XTP or a 240-245/250 gn hard cast will do everything you need, you will be satisfied with your trajectory and more confident with your handgun.
