342 savage 22 Hornet
« on: May 16, 2010, 03:39:38 PM »
Hi all,

I was given a Savage 342 22 Hornet to reassemble. A friend took ( no really he did ) it apart to clean and can't figure out how to replace the sear spring. I'm not very familiar with this rifle. I think it is positioned correctly but just not sure. There is isn't a lot of info on these and the book I have does not show that particular part very well. Any help

Thanks Joe

Hi

The spring is number 48, it diagram shows the loop facing forward. when installed in this direction it would place tension on the sear pulling it downward. I think the sear should have tension upward to facilitate returning it to the up position.

Thanks Joe

No matter what YOU or I  think, it might be better if the spring was installed they way the factory illustrated it should be.

If it doesn't work, it's easy enough to redo.
