I am looking to buy a gun for varmint hunting i am looking at the 223 ot the 22-250, what are the pros and cons of thes two bullets ( speed and range of the bullets ) and if u have any suggestions to another caliber of bullet than let me know.

I have had both. I could never get a 22-250 to shoot as accurate at 200+ yds as my 243. The 223 is a great round that will stretch out to 200+ and is very accurate. So I go with a 223 and since I have a 243 there is really no need for a 22-250 for me. Not to say I don't need another rifle, a 260 maybe, hmmmm

22-250 over the 223 for range. i have one in a remington bullbarel that is great for prairie dogs but dies at 250-300 yards. loaded with 40g Vmax and compressed load of varget. very fast and hot. its a great gun for shorter range. the 22-250 is more versatile, 1 1/2" high at 100yd is pretty flat and dead on out to 400-500yds with 52gr Amax match bullet loaded with H380. no recoil but quit a bit of muzzle jump. Tikka makes awsome 22-250 and gaurantee 1"MOA out of the box the new T3 Tikka is very nice, with less wieght and new clip design for $469

That gun should make one ragged hole at 200 meters. If you take the time to work on it.

I am a smallbore nut and have guns chambered in 17 Rem, 223, 22-250, 220 Swift, and a 243. The caliber that gets the most use is the 223. I do a lot of calling and have taken coyotes anywher from 10 yards to 250 yards with my 223's. They are the cheapest to shoot too. The 22-250 and the Swift will shoot further but even out here in Wyoming, I seldom shoot farther than 100 yards. I have carried my Colt and my Bushmaster more than any other gun in my safe. I will say this though. If you are talking prarie dogs, I do use the 22-250 and the Swift for them because I get 3 to 400 yard (and longer) shots and need the extra range. But if you are calling Coyotes and foxes into reasonable range, you'll be more than happy with the 223. I went out today and took 2 more song dogs with my Bushmaster. They never complained about using too little gun on them. :wink:
