Ejector Spring Replacement

My .270 Handi has had ejection troubles with certain factory ammo.  I have done all the chamber polishing, bb trick, and put a small screw inside the ejector spring with pretty much the same results.  I would like to try to just replace the spring the pushes the ejector, but cannot seem to find one!  I called H&R....they don't have them anymore since they went to all extractors.  I tried Brownell's but eneded up ordering the wrong  springs..no pictures and short descriptions makes for a difficult time picking the right one.  I also found an e-mail address in a very old post for someone who had apparently had access to replacement springs (I think his name was Mike?  mpforbord@eagleengr.com??)

So....can anyone tell me where to get a new ejector spring???

H&R still sells them, it's the same spring that's in all of the shotguns and rimfires, S01695.

FWIW, in my experience, when I get the ejection results you describe, I check the brass for 'trim to length' and usually back off the load a tad.

Reloading issues was my first thought also but the problem is with factory ammo. If it's with Hornady Light Mag ammo, it's just too hot for the ejector to handle, best advice in that case is not use that ammo or convert it to a factory style extractor, see the FAQs.

Thanks for the link Tim. I didn't find that when I looked at Brownell's before. Kinda ticks me off that the CS person at H&R didn't know that it was the same spring as the shotguns and rimfires. And it was only factory ammo...just Rem cor-lokt mostly.

10-4 on the Hornady Lt. Mag Ammo.  Had a 15 year old box of 30-06 and my handi didn't appreciate it.  On a bright note, the JB welded shim stayed put.

Yes, the Light Mag ammo and some other Hornady ammo(22-250) has been reported to cause issues with ejectors, but like most sticking problems, they're usually not stuck very badly, and the usual polishing and ejector tuning will correct the problem. The new spring may not help either if the Rem ammo is sticking, there may be an issue with the chamber that needs to be addressed by H&R, they're very good at making things right, so don't give up on it, if you were to send it in and their own Rem ammo sticks in it, they'd likely replace it with an extractor barrel, end of problem.

Will H&R still work on it since they did not factory fit this barrel to my frame?

They have for at least one member here, but that was to fit the second hand barrel properly, the underlug must be long enough for them to cut the pivot to fit, they don't shim. If it's not a factory fitted barrel, they wouldn't cover repairs, IE replace the barrel, as if it were factory fitted.
