Bad Scare in K-mart Today
« on: April 23, 2010, 10:51:33 PM »
Wife, boy and myself went to came-apart to pick up a couple toys for youngest grand daughters birthday tomarrow. While waundering near the sporting goods leg brushed against something strung across the asile. It was a very thin piece of mono fishing line. As soon as I felt it I stopped and looked down. My blood ran cold and thoughts of V/N ran thru my mind. Checking it out appears couple kids had strung several pieces of fishing line across several asiles. Bad part was several people of east indian decent had been there just prior to my walking thru. Once satisfied took a trip outside for a smoke and a look around.

Now there's a rush of cold sweat and dread.  The heart can't take too many of those.  Ask the Manager to review the security tapes.  I am glad for you that it was only a brush with Death.  What a bad prank.   The perpetrator has NO IDEA what that could do to a man.  What a Deja Vu flashback to 1969.  Burrrrrrrr.  Makes my skin crawl.

Land owner, talked to the gal working the sporting goods section and she said she would bring it to the manager's attention. At almost 70 yrs old seems the training kicked in and slowly backed away and started checking things. Maybe will have to start picking up a machete from the store and start swinging it in front of me when I walk up and down the asiles. Wounder how long before the cops haul me off to the funny house.  ::)

A guy did that to a teacher way back when i was in high school. When the old girl went down i thought she was going to break her neck. Broke her glasses and cut the heck out of her knees. The guy got thrown out of school and was told they would see to it that he never went to another school in this state.

After the incident its probably a good thing I dint get ahold of the party that did it. I am sure if I did I would be locked up in rubber room with a 24 hour watch on me for what I would have done to them.

bobg:  I agree.

Gun Runner:  if you go back to that store take a Willow whip with you and have it 'walk the floor' ahead of you - it will hang up on fishing line the same way small Bamboo stalks would hang up when charlie would set traps on the trails.

If they ask what you are doing you can simply tell them the truth - trip wires for ieds....................

GunRunner:  Might be hard to blame the kids, most likely the parents had them stringing it between the trees around the “garden” up on the Hill.  Kind of them not to have fishhooks dangling from the line, or Rat Trap on the end with a 12 gauge shell in it.

A good thing the old vet remained cool and training along with experience kicked in.  With the way things work you could have ended up in the “Royal Motel” or worse yet the local two day wait emergency room to be forgotten.

When you mentioned fish hooks, I got a flash back to a time when I almost got it. The line was set about neck height and had hooks about 10 inches apart on it. I was bending down because I thought I saw a ground wire and the hook snaged my hat. Upon checking it out, some of the hooks had a green paste on them that we thought might be some kinda poison.
In later years when I had some problems with young prowlers at night, I set a fishline with tin cans hooked together on it. It woke me up on the second night as I lay in bed. The profanity that I heard as they took off, made me laugh out loud. They never came back.
