Handi Vs. Oregon sage rats (graphic)
« on: April 27, 2010, 07:23:41 AM »
Went over to eastern Oregon this past weekend to help cut down a rat problem. Grabbed the Handi 270 and 22 hornet barrel. All in all I moved twice from my shooting area but bagged around 400 Rats. See if you can guess what rat was dusted by the 270.

I was using store bought hornady 35 grain Vmax. It popped them pretty good if you took a body shot out to about 200 yards. I used the 270 for longer range. I did make a shot of my lifetime though. Not sure how far it was but at a guess around 500 yards. I had to shoot with a 2 foot hold over and about the same into the wind that was gusting about 20 mph. Took him off the mound with the second shot. My buddie that was with me could not believe it. I doubt I could do it again but it won me brag rights for the day. There would be more pics of the 270 kills if there was enough left to shoot a pics of. I also gave them hell with my gamo pellet gun. I was dustin them out to about 75 yards but all it did was kill them, and alot of time they made it back to there burrows.  I tell ya, them little critters are something else. If you dumped one of them, one of his buddies would drag his remains back in the hole and start munchin on them. Although this seems like random sensless killing, the amount of crop damages these things do is incredible. So it was with purpose.
